Chesterton is, has been, and hopefully always will be a farming village. That is what we are!
These days far fewer people who live in the village are invloved in the farming industry. In past times most people worked on the land, not so now. Probably more soliciters and architechts than farm workers in the average farming village. Some things that even someone of my age can remember are gone for good, such as stubble burning after the harvest had been taken in, and herds of cows being driven down the main road to another field. Whatever changes have happened over the years, and even allowing for the fact that villages these days probably have more people working in London than on the land, the farming industry is still of vital importance.
